City Code of Ordinances

Short-term rentals are not currently allowed in residential zoning districts, but property owners in these districts may apply for a zoning change to allow the short-term rental use: commercial, industrial, or mixed-use.

Ordinances and Zoning are subject to changes and should always be confirmed with the  Fort Worth Code Enforcement Department

Business License Requirements

If you have a commercial, industrial, or mixed-use zoning residential structure, it would be operated as a business and would likely need to be registered with the Tarrant County

Building and Housing Standards

Fort Worth has rules and regulations that specify minimum building, design, maintenance standards, habitability, health, and safety requirements. Some rules and regulations that apply to residential and non-residential properties may apply to your listing. For more information, consult the Fort Worth Code Enforcement Department.

Tourist and Local Taxes

The city levies a 9% occupancy tax on hotels. While the city code does not include specific language regarding short-term rentals, it broadly defines a hotel to include tourist homes. Short-term rentals currently report and remit their payments on a voluntary basis.

Other Rules

It is also essential to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, such as leases, condo boards, co-op rules, HOA rules, or rules established by tenant organizations. Please read your lease agreement and check with your landlord if applicable. Visit the City of Fort Worth for more information.
