City Code of Ordinances

STRs include single-family homes, garage apartments, duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and multifamily units.  If you rent your home or other dwellings for less than 30 days, you must obtain an STR permit.

The city of Frisco passed a Short-Term Rental (STR) ordinance that will take effect on January 4, 2022. The city is working on an online permit portal for STR registration. The city will not consider STRs in violation of the permitting standards until all services associated with the permitting process are completed. These services are expected to be ready in early summer 2022.

Business License Requirements

Registration will be ready by early summer 2022. Consult the Frisco Short-Term Rentals page for updates.

Building and Housing Standards

Frisco has rules and regulations that specify minimum building, design, maintenance standards, habitability, health, and safety requirements. Some rules and regulations that apply to residential and non-residential properties may apply to your listing. Consult the Frisco Development Services Department for more information.

Tourist and Local Taxes

If you are a short-term rental operating after the effective date of the Ordinance, you are required to collect and remit Hotel-Motel-STR occupancy taxes monthly through the process provided by the Financial Services Department.

Other Rules

It is also essential to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, such as leases, condo boards, co-op rules, HOA rules, or rules established by tenant organizations. Please read your lease agreement and check with your landlord if applicable. Visit the City of Frisco for more information.
