Baton Rouge, Louisiana Short Term Rental Regulations

City Code of Ordinances

Baton Rouge currently does not regulate short-term rentals. Still, the Metropolitan Council instructed the Planning Commission to work with the Federation of Greater Baton Rouge Civic Associations and the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors to study potential regulations governing short-term rentals.

The proposed regulations would allow short-term rentals in all single-family residential zoning districts on a LIMITED basis.

The limitations are: 

1. Must register to pay taxes; 
2. Home must set aside one bedroom for the owner(s); 
3. Shall be owner-occupied. 

Whole house rentals would be allowed as a Conditional Use (requiring approval at a public hearing), adhering to the following:

1. Acquire a permit (valid for continuous operation); 
2. Maximum occupancy of two persons per bedroom plus two; 
3. One additional parking space is provided for each bedroom used as a short-term rental.

Business License Requirements

Baton Rouge does not need a business license as the short-term rental is currently unregulated. Still, the proposed regulation is being studied and might need registration.

Baton Rouge has rules and regulations that specify minimum building, design, maintenance standards, habitability, health, and safety requirements.
